Fundamentals of DC Electricity for Low Voltage
This course is an introduction to the basics of direct current (DC) electricity for low voltage contractors working on access control systems. We will be reviewing the basics of AC and DC, voltage, amperage, ohms, and continuity, including how to perform measurements with a multimeter. We will discuss basic circuits and the development of circuits, identifying normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) circuits and common electronic hardware used. This class is eligible for 1 credit hour: attendees may receive a certificate of completion (as requested).

Learning Objectives

By completing this course, attendees should be able to:

- Define voltage, amperage, ohms, and continuity.
- Explain how and where to measure volts, amps, ohms, and continuity.
- Outline the process of how to use a multimeter to measure for volts, amps, ohms, and continuity.
- Identify normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) circuits and hardware commonly used with each of those circuits.
